My name is Patrick Maestas. I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up sharing a roof with my two immigrant grandparents, who inspired me to pick up a camera. My grandmother was a wedding photographer, and my grandfather documented life through his lens while serving in the Vietnam War. Through their photographs, I was exposed to the emotional range of life and the power of storytelling.
At fifteen, I saved up enough money from mowing lawns to buy my first film camera, which I used to capture the lush green landscapes of Tennessee. Growing up in the foothills of Appalachia sparked my love for the outdoors and filled my heart with wanderlust.
At nineteen, I started life on the road, living out of a mini-van named Cleopatra and traveling across North America to climb—with a camera always in hand. After a few years of documenting friends and landscapes, I eventually landed in Washington State and began to plant roots in Seattle.
Today, I work as a commercial and wedding photographer, striving to capture the same dreamy sense of wonder I felt when I first moved to Washington. When I’m not working, you’ll most likely find me with my wife, child, and dog—either at the crag or at the beach if there’s good swell!
